NVIDIA 306.97 WHQL Drivers Available
by Jarred Walton on October 10, 2012 11:13 PM ESTContinuing their 304 Series drivers, NVIDIA has just released their 306.97 driver update for desktops and laptops. Along with updated SLI and 3D Vision profiles for a few games, the driver notes specifically call out improved support for Borderlands 2 and World of Warcraft: Mists of Pandaria. The new drivers come just under a month after the last WHQL release, the 306.23 drivers. I also noticed a few compatibility issues with Total War: Shogun 2 that came with the 306.23 drivers have been fixed with the latest update, though overall performance is largely unchanged in most titles. Here are the direct links to the various drivers:
Desktop 32-bit Windows Vista/7/8
Desktop 64-bit Windows Vista/7/8
Mobile 32-bit Windows Vista/7/8
Mobile 64-bit Windows Vista/7/8

I think they create a different driver to keep locking the highly OCable 460 which was sold at a great price. p.s. 850/1700/4000 OCed GTX460 is not stable for all drivers after 275.33.andy5174 - Tuesday, October 16, 2012 - link
Still unstable, confirmed! It didn't even pass the first graphic test in 3Dmark and clocks are set back to default after the failure.Spoelie - Thursday, October 11, 2012 - link
Was wondering what driver is used in the bench results for each card, and when a card gets retested with a newer driver? Currently there's no (clear) indication of either.Especially during the early life of a card, driver performance increases are plentiful, and without that information, the numbers provided by bench are not reliable for purchasing decisions.

Don't worry, as we see with this nVidia release by the article, no performance increases matter at all.GeForce GTX 680:
Up to 18% in Batman: Arkham City
Up to 15% in Dragon Age II
Up to 10% in S.T.A.L.K.E.R.: Call of Pripyat
Up to 60% in Total War: Shogun 2 (fixes performance issue with latest game patch)
GeForce GTX 560:
Up to 14% in Batman: Arkham City
Up to 5% in Battlefield 3 with SLI
Up to 4% in Dragon Age II
Up to 8% in The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings with SLI
Up to 7% in Lost Planet 2
That equals zero, remember that.

If you end up hitting 30 every frame counts to an overall smoother experience.
