AT&T Tweets SGSII Availability: October 2nd For $199

We knew it'd come after Sprint's variant was released, but we didn't know how long we'd have to wait. AT&T saw fit to let us know, in a tweet on their official account today. From our hands-on we noted that AT&T's variant was the closest to the International edition, which won high praise form Brian in his review. The 4.3" WVGA SAMOLED+ display, paired with Samsung's own Exynos processor will be available for $199 on-contract or $549 off, on October 2nd. The price matches Sprint's variant, leaving all to wonder whether T-Mobile will match that pricing with their uniquely equipped variant.

That is actually the samsung infuse my current phone. If I'm not mistaken the SGII removes the two middle buttons and replaces them with one larger button, maybe a track pad.sigmatau - Wednesday, September 21, 2011 - link
Everyone thought this was to come out on the 18th. AT&T did not dispute this date. It took them 3 days later, after at least a few thousand angry customers complained and asked for a release date, for AT&T to release this information.I've been really hoping for this phone to come out myself. My 3gs died so I decided to move away form the crap Apple makes. MS just didn't have anything competitive in terms of hardware. Mango just got a release date. I ended up ordering an Infuse from Amazon for $99. I had an upgrade available and AT&T was asking $199. Also, you pay no taxes from Amazon and you get $15 to spend on mobile media for the phone.
As the phone was in transit, I saw the GS2 coming out very soon so I returned the Infuse unopened. AT&T has the worst policy for resetting upgrades. Amazon told me that they are the only company that takes 3 days to reset an upgrade instead of being instant like Sprint and Verizon as soon as Amazon tells the carrier to reset it. So basicaly, I was going to miss the release date and be without a good phone for a few day past the expected 18th launch date. I was annoyed at that, but my hands were tied.
Then the 18th came and went and no GS2 or any information about it. Nothing, none, natta. Not a squeak. There were hundreds posting on forums about their anger. What most were mad about was that AT&T refused to say even the slightest hint of a release date when asked. Many said they were taking their business to Sprint.
So now we finaly got a release date, not on the AT&T website, not even the AT&T website dedicate to the GS2, and certainly not when a AT&T rep was asked it. Instead, they post it on Twitter.
What's sad is by October, people will have a much better idea of what is coming out in the next few weeks to make the GS2 much less appealing. This phone will be a half a year old by then! I know we can't keep playing the what's-next game when holding off buying something, but there will be several major phone releases in the next month.
Oh well, it's kind of funny as the crazy delay seems to be Samsung's fault for not being to make enough of them.

Wow, lots to digest, hope this all works out for you. I think that given AT&T's variant's similarity to the international version it really shouldn't have taken as long as it is to get their phone out, but the ball really is in Samsung's court. What I consider sad is that this, as you said, is essentially a six month old phone, which, as Brian discussed in the review, owes as much for its success to its software as it does to its hardware. It's proof that even with a skin it's possible to make an Android device that is fast, smooth and a joy to use. So all the other manufacturer's out there have no excuse any longer. Samsung's proved it.What I'm really curious about is this: how will it hold up against the October releases? And I'm not talking about Apple.

Wait.. You have to go with Sprint Right ? I'm on Verizon-Unlimited.. But correct me if I am wrong.. Would you not want Sprint's Unlimited ( WiMax ? .. ) 4G ? Why buy a Hot Rod in a Town full of Speed Bumps ? at least at Sprint you can let the phone stretch it's wings Ouch! to that 2 Gig Data Cap.. You will burn through that in a couple of weeks...
